I Found Your New Show To Binge-Watch During The Holidays: The OA

I just want to get this out of the way before I continue.

I am in a mental pretzel right now. Holy Shit.

So this weekend, I wasn’t feeling that well. Thanks, head cold. No big deal. I’m a warrior. Anyway, since I was snowed in and not feeling well, I decided to watch a new Netflix show that was released on Friday called The OA. Now, I knew absolutely NOTHING about this show going into it. I watched the above trailer and I still had so many questions. Regardless, I decided to give it a shot.

After I watched the pilot, I was hooked and I mean sucked in. I’m talking about one of the best pilots I have seen in awhile. It was that good and it made you walk away and say “What the fuck just happened? But I need to watch more.” What a move by The OA. They did close to nothing to promote it. The trailer came out earlier this week and reviews couldn’t even come out until the show premiered last Friday. Just a preposterous move on the creators part, but I think it will pay off once this show spreads like wildfire.

I’m not going to give away spoilers, but here is my basic synopsis of what the show is about. Prairie Johnson is the lead character who has returned home after going missing for 7 years. When her parents find her, Prairie now calls herself The OA. Pretty simple stuff so far? Well what I didn’t mention is that Prairie was blind before she went missing. Now she can see. How?

If you think that’s surprising, you ain’t seen nothing yet. When The OA returns, she is baffled and delirious, mentioning that she wants to get back to someone called Homer. The OA won’t talk to the FBI, but she decides to tell her story to 5 strangers, each one with their own backstory and specific reasoning for being there. From there, The OA tells her story in a series of flashbacks of how she went missing and what really happened when she was gone. I’ll stop there because I don’t want to give too much away.

I’ll be honest. It’s really hard to give you a summary without giving too much away but I promise you that you will be engrossed in the pilot. It will leave you wanting more. This show makes you think and question your own morals and beliefs. It’s weird, it’s suspenseful, and its downright confusing, but it’s addicting. I swear it’s addicting. 2016 is the year of Sci-fi. Stranger Things, Westworld, Black Mirror, Arrival, and now The OA.

I can’t hype this show up anymore. Even after the ending, I’m so confused but I need more because I want my questions to be answered and you will too. It’s a bunch of actors and actresses that you probably never heard of, but you’ll get to grow with their characters for the 8 episodes.

Give The OA a chance. I know most of you need a new show to watch for the holidays. It’s 8 episodes. I finished it in just over a day. You will not regret watching this show. Do it. Plus, I’m dying to talk about it with people so watch it and hit me up.
