A season that started off with so much promise until around Christmas time when the Knicks began their free fall into the pits of the Eastern Conference after dropping 9 out of 10 games, mostly in excruciating fashion, finding new ways to blow games I didn’t even know were possible. Fast forward to February, any close game you expect to lose, but that seems to be the least of the problems with everything that has transpired off the court with the Knicks sitting 3.5 games out of a playoff spot and 11 games under .500.
I need to vent a little bit about the most toxic, chaotic, dysfunctional franchise in the NBA, that is the New York Knicks.
The Knickerbockers are about EVERYTHING except actually winning basketball games. To distract us from the pitiful 9 playoff wins in 17 years they use the washed up big names, Knicks City Dancers, t-shirt launch, and bright lights to keep your mind entertained while viewing an embarrassment of a product on the court. If you dare happen to be critical of the organization, you will be fired or forced to resign. The list goes on and on from announcers like Marv Albert to Gus Johnson and coaches such as Jeff Van Gundy, Lenny Wilkens, Larry Brown and Mike D’antoni. Not bringing back my girl Tina Cervasio as the sideline reporter was the final straw, just because she was doing gigs outside of MSG. How about forcing Glen Grunwald to resign as GM just days before a season he came off of 54 wins. The organization is run much like a communist country, bad mouth the government and you’re out of here.
I’m not letting the “yes man” type of guys that are/were employed by the team unqualified throughout this regime off the hook either, yeah I’m looking at you Herb Williams and Steve Mills. A guy who held Patrick Ewing’s jockstrap and somehow survived six head coaching changes, but was always somehow picked up to be an assistant by the next head coach.
They should call us the Spurs North (kidding). I think we can all see the civil wars brewing within the organization. Now I finally can get to maybe the ugliest scene in Knicks history from Wednesday night, in a game where blowing a 10-point 4th quarter lead wasn’t even talked about. A hero, from those gritty ’90s Knicks teams was carried out against his will. Charles Oakley was a man that left his blood, sweat and tears on the floor giving you all he had for a decade. This is his fate. I don’t know who was in the wrong here, but the Knicks went about this the total wrong way and to publicly insinuate Oak “needs help” or is an alcoholic is an embarrassment.

Back to the on-court struggle, as I just watched Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets light up the Knicks and their lack of D for 131, yes 131 FUCKING POINTS. The sad part is that becoming a regular occurrence at MSG. Maybe if this team had half the heart Oakley did, they would play some defense. Can someone deliver a hard foul? I cannot believe how disgusting this situation has gotten, this is even bad for the Knicksiest of standards. It’s the same script for every game, blowing leads and not playing defense. The weird part is I usually put it on the coach, but I think Hornacek has done a solid job fighting through all the BS thrown his way. James Dolan has actually stepped aside like we wanted and let someone that knows basketball run the organization and we are somehow worse off than before Jackson arrived.

I usually can come up with some form of a plan or answer, but I just can’t think of what the solution here is. Do you trade off everyone and tank? Does Carmelo even agree to waive his no-trade clause? Does Phil opt out after this year? What free agent would think about signing to this garbage? Hold on folks, this could somehow even get worse with no light at the end of the tunnel for the organization we are stuck with like a forced marriage. I could go on for days about the deep-rooted issues, but I may have a heart attack before game 82.
I cannot stress this enough — of all Dolan’s atrocities, there is only ONE cardinal sin w/Knicks fans: disrespecting Oak/Starks/P Ew/Mason.
