RIP Christopher ‘Big Black’ Boykin

TMZ – Christopher ‘Big Black’ Boykin, who was the other half of Rob Dyrdek‘s hit MTV show “Rob & Big” — has died … TMZ has learned.

His rep tells us Chris died Tuesday morning. No official cause of death yet, but multiple people connected to Chris tell us they believe it was a heart attack.

He was Rob’s best friend and bodyguard on their reality show, which ran from 2006 to 2008 — and also later appeared on ‘Fantasy Factory.’

Horrible, horrible news. Simply put, Big Black was the man. His cool and smooth persona jumped off the screen. Big Black just seemed like a guy who you wanted in your squad because he would be the glue that holds everything together. I’m saying all of this and I didn’t even know the guy personally, which just shows how good of a dude Big Black truly was if random strangers are talking highly of him. I’m also sure you knew someone who rocked the Big Black brand, which was super dope.

We all obviously came to love Big Black as he teamed up with skateboarder Rob Dyrdek on MTV’s Rob & Big. Looking back, Rob & Big did not get the credit it deserved when it first came out. I’ll admit that at first, I used to just watch it when there was nothing else on. I didn’t watch it religiously, but I know that whenever I watched it, I was entertained. As the seasons went on, I started to like it more and more to where I would tune in whenever it was on. Underrated stat – There were only 3 seasons of Rob & Big for a total of 31 episodes. Wait what? That’s it? I could’ve sworn that show lasted for 8 years, but there was a falling out between Rob and Big Black, which caused the show to end so abruptly.

Thankfully, the two made up and Big Black finally showed up on Fantasy Factory in the middle seasons aka when the show was good. Rob & Big worked as a show because of their chemistry. Yes, most / if not all reality TV is staged, but Big Black still seemed to be himself throughout all of this. Everything about him seemed genuine and Rob can back that up via the posts on his timeline last night, which are the definition of a gut punch.

Heartwarming stuff right there. I’m glad they made up and who knows, maybe they would’ve brought back Rob & Big in the future. It’s a shame that we will never know. RIP to Big Black and prayers to his family. Thank you for all the laughs.

BUMPING this song all day.
